Treating a Diaper Rash

A diaper rash is very uncomfortable for a baby and should be treated immediately once noticed. It is one of the most common skin problems for a baby. It breaks our hearts when we see our poor innocent baby hurting that we actually feel guilty. If you follow these tips, we can bring comfort back into our child’s life.

There a many different diaper rashes. There are mild diaper rashes that may feel warm to touch and are slightly red in color. If you do not treat this once noticed, the rash can spread and the redness will deepen. Severe diaper rashes should be brought to a Pediatricians attention, since sometimes a prescription is necessary.

The most common reasons of a diaper rash are trapped moisture. It also can be friction with a diaper or sometimes introducing new foods or antibiotics may cause diarrhea which can lead to a diaper rash.  Once a rash has occured, it's easy for microorganisms such as yeast or bacteria to invade.

If you change a wet or soiled diaper more often this will help keep the baby’s bottom dry from moisture. Be sure to clean the effected area delicately. Try letting your baby be without a diaper for a bit to allow the air to reach the skin. This will reduce the moisture, friction and warmth. Apply a thick layer of diaper rash cream. This will form a barrier to relieve the diaper rash discomfort.

There are diaper rash creams you can apply daily. There is also diaper rash paste that works well. Some ointments are enriched with vitamin A and D to prevent a diaper rash from appearing. If the rash worsens within seven days, contact your pediatrician.
